Dr. Willey is an osteopathic physician, board certified with the American Board of Holistic Medicine, the American Board of Urgent Cares and the American Board of Bariatrics. His areas of expertise include nutritional and exercise medicine with an emphasis in preventive medicine. His interests in medicine stem from a sickly childhood. He was a brittle asthmatic patient, was required to take multiple medications and required frequent trips to the pediatrician.

Because of his asthma and poor physical stamina, his father felt compelled to build his physical strength. His father had a love for the gym and chose to start him on a weight lifting program. From that time forward, his overall health began to improve, even the asthma. This life experience prompted Dr. Willey to begin reading everything available on nutrition, exercise and the effects of weight training on overall health. At the age of 12, he was offered a personal training position at a local gym. He began counseling athletes on diet and exercise, thus beginning his career as an "optimum health" consultant.

After high school, Dr. Willey attended Colorado State University where he received an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Nutritional Science. While completing his pre-med requirements, he often felt disheartened that most health care providers did NOT discuss the impact of diet and exercise with their patients. Most medical care resulted in a prescription for medications while avoiding the topics of nutrition and an exercise program. When asking a physician colleague about the importance of nutrition and exercise, he replied, "There is no time for that, and besides, no one listens if you do."

Dr. Willey was dumbfounded. He found that if he was not careful, he would fall into the trap of being a DISEASE CARE provider versus a HEALTH CARE provider (focusing more on a disease state than a healthy state). Dr. Willey's brief introduction to modern medicine helped him understand the unique pathways of becoming a physician, osteopathy (DO) and Allopathy (MD). Entrance requirements into the two kinds of medical schools are very similar. However, doctors of osteopathy (DO) are trained in the medicine of muscles, and body structure manipulation, similar to that done by a Chiropractor.

Following graduation from medical school, Dr. Willey went on to the Mayo Clinic for a 36 month residency in family medicine. At the completion of his residency, he started the Fitness Medicine Clinic in Colorado, a full-service weight loss and age management clinic. Due to a hectic schedule, and yearning more time with his family, he moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 2003.

Dr. Willey is an owner at Physicians Immediate Care Center where he supervises the provision of urgent care services, a growing occupational medicine service, family medicine, and Pocatello's most successful weight loss program. He serves as a consultant to several nutritional companies, a freelance author for many fitness magazines, and he has been found speaking at several engagements about nutrition, exercise and health management.

Dr. Willey is the author of many books, a medical text book, "What Does Your Doctor Look Like Naked? Your Guide To Optimal Health" and "Better Than Steroids."

What Does Your Doctor Look Like Naked? introduces Dr. Willey's approach with weight loss and body composition management, and serves as a guide to optimal health. Better Than Steroids takes a closer look at the power of nutrition and the development of lean muscle mass. Both books can be purchased at Physicians Immediate Care Center.
